EVERY MONTH WE HAVE AN AMERICAN LEGION MEETING
On January 9, 2019 we held our meeting at Casa de Espana. On this occasion we met on the second Wednesday of the month because of conflicts with the New Years Day Events. We discussed preparing for the presentation of the Vietnam War Commemorative pins. We discussed the obtaining of the Declaration of Public Utility which would allow the people donation to us to receive a tax exempt status for the donation. We are going to be setting up a WhatsApp for the Post. Discussed the Valentine’s Day Event which will take place on February 14. Terry Wise and Martha Rollins discussed the trip they took in December 2018 to assist the Cabecar people in the Telemanca mountains. Finally we reiterated the importance of every veteran to prepare the necessary paperwork which will help their widow in the event of their death.
On December 5, 2018 we had our monthly meeting at Casa de Espana. We discussed the Marine Corps Ball and Remembrance Day Celebration both of which occurred in November. Additionally we discussed the procedure we must follow to get a Declaration of Public Utility (DPU). The DPU would make it possible to received donations from businesses and those donations would be tax deductible for the businesses. We discussed the possibility to get a whats app so that we could communicate with all the members. Once again we discussed the need for every member to discuss with his spouse the arrangements to be made in the event of his death. We discussed the upcoming trip to the Telemanca mountains to bring supplies and a “feast” to the Cabecar indigenous children in December. Finally we have started the preparation to get the Celebration Vietnam Pins and the event to present them.
November 7, 2018 meeting was held at Casa de Espana. The primary purpose of this meeting was to elect new officers. Officers were elected to all the positions. Congratulations to all the dedicated members for steping up and taking the officer responsibilities. Additonally, we presented the remainder of the awards for those people that could not attend the Awards Ceremony on October 24th.
October 3, 2018 meeting was held at Casa de Espana. The meeting had a good attendance and numerous topics were discussed including the Awards Luncheon which will be held on October 24 12 noon at Casa de Espana. the election of officers to be held on November 7, 2018 12 noon at Casa de Espana, Marine Corps Ball on November 10th and Remembrance Day on November 11 in Guachapalin. The meeting was concluded and followed by a great lunch.
The monthly meeting for July was on July 4th Independence Day. It was held at Casa de Espana. This was more of an informal meeting where we played patriotic songs, ate hamburgers and hot dogs. We had almost 30 people and among them were several of the Marine Corp League. We hope that next year we can have a larger group and have it a join celebration with the Marine Corp League.
THE MONTHLY MEETING WAS HELD ON MAY 2, 2018 AN AT THE CASA DE ESPANA. THIS MONTH WE HAD A GOOD GROUP OF VETERANS. WE DISCUSSED THE UPCOMING MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION WHICH WILL OCCUR AN MAY 27 (SUNDAY), 2018 AN 11AM WHEN THE FORMER COMMANDER OF THE MARINE CORPS LEAGUE WILL BE PLACED TO REST IN ONE OF OUR PLOTS AT THE CEMETERY IN EZCAZU. ADDITIONALLY WE TALKED ABOUT THE UPCOMING CELEBRATIONS ON 4TH OF JULY AND OUR AWARDS BANQUET IN AUGUST.
MONTHLY MEETING WAS HELD ON APRIL 7, 2018 AT CASA DE ESPANA. THIS WAS ANOTHER INFORMAL MEETING WITH ONLY A FEW PEOPLE ATTENDING. WE DID HAVE A GOOD DISCUSSION ON ALL TOPICS. THIS WAS THE SECOND MEETING WE HAD ON SATURDAY, WHICH PEOPLE HAD REQUESTED , AND VERY FEW PEOPLE SHOWED UP. DUE TO THE LOW ATTENDANCE, WE WILL BE RETURNING THE MEETINGS TO THE FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH.
